Archibald Thorburn (1860 - 1935)
Archibald Thorburn
Archibald Thorburn has been described as 'the greatest ornithological artist ever, with a wonderful gift for placing his bird subjects in harmonious surroundings'. At the age of 20, Thorburn's work was accepted for the Royal Academy Exhibition in London, and in 1887 his reputation was secured by a commission to illustrate Lord Lilford's Coloured Figures of the Birds of the British Isles, for which he painted 268 watercolours.

Edward Wesson, one of Britains most outstanding 20th Century watercolourists, was born in Blackheath London in 1910. He started painting at the age of 20 and adopted his own pure and simple style, painting with a french polisher's mop and drawing with a matchstick or sharpened lollipop stick. He was elected a member of the RI (Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour) in 1952 and public recognition was further enhanced by commissions for British Rail and the Post Office Savings Bank. Wesson was also a tireless teacher, writing articles for The Artist and Leisure Painter magazines as well as tutoring painting holidays.

Edward Seago, RWS, RBA
Edward Seago was one of the UK's best known post-impressionist painters. He was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists from 1946 and a member of the Royal Watercolour Society from 1959. He painted many landscapes, particularly those in Norfolk, as well as maritime themed scenes. After purchasing 'Ca Conca', his Sardinian Villa, he produced some fine paintings of his harbour view from the terrace. His work is often compared with that of Turner, due to his use of light to produce impressionistic atmospheric works.

John Yardley is one of the most renowned artists of his generation, particularly in watercolour. After a career in banking he started painting full time in 1986. Yardley received no formal training and maintains that this has given him the freedom to find his own style. His artistic impulse is to paint what he sees with little embellishment and he has the ability to capture the vitality of any scene. Yardley is a member of the RI (Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour) and exhibits at the Royal Watercolour Society where he won the award for Best Newcomer in 1989.

James Fletcher-Watson, RI
James Fletcher-Watson, who sadly died in 2004, was a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and the Royal Society of British Artists. He started exhibiting at the age of twenty and enjoyed considerable national and international success. He had a studio in the Cotswolds and was also the author of several highly popular books on watercolour painting.

Peter Scott
Sir Peter Markham Scott was a naturalist, conservationist, artist and author whose abiding passion was wildlife. He travelled the world painting rare birds, then later founded the Severn Wildfowl Trust (now the Wildlife and Wetlands Trust), and co-founded the World Wildlife Fund (now the World Wide Fund for Nature). Described as the 'father of conservation', he led a campaign for endangered wildlife that captured the imagination of a generation and inspired many to care about the environment long before it was fashionable to do so.

L S Lowry
Laurence Stephen Lowry, one of the 20th Century's most popular artists, was born in Stretford, Manchester in 1887. Lowry shunned the artistic establishment, acknowleding no influences, nor attempting to teach others. Although he did not achieve any kind of commercial success until the 1930s, he is now universely associated with the 'matchstick men and matchstick cats and dogs' of his later work.

Although best known for his enormous TV paintings, Rolf Harris has a background in Fine Art and has exhibited at the Royal Academy. He attended the City and Guilds Art School at Kennington in the early fifties and went on to develop his own characteristic, free style under the tutelage of Australian impressionist Hayward Veal. He was voted the world's most famous artist by a British poll in 1992 and his recent series for the BBC, Rolf on Art, has only increased his appeal.

Born in May 1960, Juan Carlos Ferrigno grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His professional career began in 1978, spending six years at one of the most famous Argentinian studios. During that time he was involved with the graphical promotion of the Motor Cycle Argentinian Grand Prix and the Juan Manuel Fangio Museum of Motor Racing. He has also worked for Philip Morris, IKA-Renault, FMA aircraft, Aerolineas Argentinas and motor racing magazines. He attended the Bellas Artes School to improve his skills, after which he moved to Spain, settling in Barcelona.
